About Articles
- Any member of the public may contribute one or more articles per issue they consider may be of interest to our readers. Topics may include a short story, historical information, details of a hobby, comments on a local event, a poem, achievements of a local citizen or wherever the imagination leads.
- Local community organizations are also welcome, indeed encouraged, to submit articles that are informative, concise and relevant to their current activities and events. These articles add value and meaning to our community newsletter.
- It is preferable that articles are around 450 words or less but longer articles are also welcome.
- Pictures accompanying an article are encouraged. Also individual pictures, of local interest, an unusual or humorous situation etc. are accepted as long as they are accompanied with an explanation. Pictures in the majority of cases would be photographs but may include drawings, sketches, plans, artwork, etc.
- Contributors should ensure that the detail, size and amount of writing etc. in a photograph, drawings, sketches, plans, artwork, etc. will be readable when published in the A5 size Garfield Spectator in black and white print.
- Articles are to be sent directly to the Editor, preferably in an electronic format that is suitable for printing and that can be edited; addressed ‘Editor’ garfieldspectator@gmail.com. If contributors are unable to meet this requirement, articles may be left at the Garfield Post Office PO Box 147 for forwarding to the Editor.
- The Editor has the right to reject, edit or hold over articles. Where this is done, the Editor will attempt to inform the contributor of the action taken and the reason why such action was taken.
- The Editor has the right to determine where an article will appear in the magazine. The Editor has the right to select the article for the front cover which attracts the reader’s attention, preferably with a picture if available.
- A reminder that articles should be with the Editor by the 20th of the month preceding the month of publication.
